This is why we love calling East London our home
It’s no secret. We love East London. We’re not at all biased. The bars, the restaurants, the easy access, the street art, the theatres, the parks, the craft beer, the coffee art, the shops, the boutiques, the city farms, the sports legacy, the dog-friendly cafés, the sheer diversity and endless things to do and see, but even more than all that, we love the incredible character and energy of this established, welcoming and thriving community.
A hundred years ago Hackney Wick, Fish Island and the surrounding areas of East London became synonymous with Britain’s industrial prowess. Today, many of the same buildings continue to be used by the designers, digital specialists, entrepreneurs and creative thinkers who are creating a new kind of maker economy.
We’ve been working with this community of makers, innovators and retailers to create Here East, and now Canalside is open, Loughborough University London and BT Sport are well established and renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor is readying his world-class arts space, so we thought it was about time we created a film that showed exactly why we love calling East London our home, and why you should too.
Who better to help tell the story than local production company Agile Films and director Price James who have sixteen years experience on the Hackney creative scene. We teamed up with them to capture the atmosphere of East London anchored around Here East, everything you see in this video is within a mile of us. Yes, we’re lucky, but there’s no reason you can’t join us too:
