Newsletter: Quarter 2

Welcome to the Summer 2017 edition of our community newsletter. Your quarterly guide to the latest news and events at Here East.

The last few months have been busy for us. We were delighted to welcome more than 4000 visitors to the wonderful 64 Bits exhibition over 3 weeks in April. The exhibition included a host of talks, workshops and discussions, welcoming a large range of different visitors including school groups and families. If you missed the exhibition, check out the following film created by Centre for Computing History, which includes an interview with Jim Boulton, digital archaeologist and curator of 64 Bits, who talks us through the history of the internet.

Last quarter, we also saw Studio Wayne McGregor open their doors at Here East as the first arts organisation on campus. The studio is a welcome addition to our existing education hubs and digital spaces. The impressive new space offers the opportunity for creatives to create, rehearse and experiment, find out more about the space and what it looks like here.

Studio Wayne McGregor also has incredible community and education programme to help aspiring creatives get into the industry. You can hear from them at our upcoming coffee morning on the 23rd May.

We were proud to host the global press launch of the new Samsung S8 smart phone on Wednesday 29th March which included a makeover to the outside of the theatre with a Samsung branded building wrap. We also hosted the Tech London Advocates Investor Showcase on 11th May – the event celebrated the venture capitalists, unicorn founders and world-leading entrepreneurs driving the success of London's technology sector.

In the coming months we'll be hosting some exciting events both in our theatre space and outside in The Maker’s Yard, including the London Tech Week launch and activities for National Robotics week. So keep an eye on our events page for more details.
