The start of 2015 saw Here East establish a Duke of Edinburgh bursary aimed at helping disadvantaged young people in Hackney to take part in their DofE expedition

Here East is strongly committed to delivering training and educational opportunities for residents of the borough. We are pleased to have supported students from Tawhid Boys School, Clapton Girls School and Metropolitan Police Cadet Group.

Mr Is'Haaq Jasat Humanities Teacher & Enrichment Coordinator, a teacher described the event “Our Y10 pupils were treated to an exclusive tour of the Here East HQ in Stratford, London. This visit was part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, as Here East awarded our School with funding towards the expedition costs for the DofE programme and this visit also included an official presentation of the Award by Here East to Tawhid Boys School. Our pupils also enjoyed an exclusive visit around the BT Sports studios, as well as the main building of the Here East HQ. Pupils also interacted with a special robot, which was designed by staff at Here East and were shown interactive displays of the entire Here East development programme. A huge thank you to DofE for arranging the visit. Also, a special thanks to Here East for hosting our pupils and supporting the DofE programme at our School.”

Ikrama Bhamjee, student “The most enjoyable aspects of the expedition were working together as a team, camping and being chased by cows!”

Ibrahim Omar, student “I learnt to be independent and navigate using a map. Camping was my favourite part.”

Moshin Imraan Amerat, student “I learnt leadership skills and how to work in a group. I enjoyed sleeping in the camp and eating together.”
