The Here East Schools Programme forms a hugely important part of our founding mission – to serve our local community and inspire the children in this pocket of East London that we call home.

In partnership with London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), we were delighted to host East Summer School on our campus during the school holiday. The Summer School provided free interactive workshops for local students aged 12 -17 years old who live in the boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, or Waltham Forest. The workshops help to develop and expand their horizons, by connecting the children who take part with industry experts across a broad range of the most exciting sectors of our time. From fashion textiles, skateboarding, dance, entrepreneurship, photography, journalism, and activism - to creating sustainable clothing or tackling climate change - the programme is tailored to suit every interest.

This summer also saw the inauguration of our innovative Tech Masters & Tech Stars Programme. In partnership with Waltham Forest Council, Here East invited 120 students for a workplace visit in July. The students had the opportunity to meet with the businesses and explore some of the studios on campus. Both Tech Stars and Tech Masters are curated to introduce children to the skills of the future. Workplace visits enable younger pupils to tangibly visualise a career in technology and break down the stereotypes that dissuade young people from a career in tech.

Here East has a long history of inspiring innovation and creativity. It has been a pleasure to welcome so many inquisitive, bright young minds from the community to our campus this Summer.

The four growth boroughs deserve tailored professional development programmes that are accessible and enrich children’s knowledge of the technology and media sectors. We are committed to driving more opportunities, more jobs and more growth for our local area. The local community is at the heart of how we operate day in, day out – and our Summer of School Programmes are just one of the many ways in which we endeavour to ensure this is a reality.
